PeopleFinders Opt Out & Remove Your Info
The PeopleFinders opt-out process is fairly straightforward. It’s free, and you don’t need an account.
PeopleFinders says to allow three days for your record to come down. In practice it’s often faster—sometimes within a day.
But—
Removal isn’t permanent. PeopleFinders treats public records and commercial data as fair game, and it only honors your opt-out as a courtesy—not a legal requirement. That means your profile can resurface as those sources refresh.

How to opt out of PeopleFinders step by step
Open the opt-out page

Go straight to peoplefinders.com/opt-out.
The homepage doesn’t link to it directly. The fastest path is the URL above.
You can also get to it through the footer: scroll to the bottom, click “do not sell my personal information”, then click the “opt-out form” link in the “how to opt out” section.
Heads-up: before it lets you opt out, PeopleFinders may pitch “Free Identity Monitoring” as an alternative.
Skip it.
It doesn’t stop your data from being sold—it just signs you up for something else.
Click “next” under “right to opt-out” and keep going.
Enter your name and email

Scroll down and type your full name and a valid email address.
Make sure “the subject of the request” is selected in the dropdown, check the box agreeing to opt-out communications, complete the CAPTCHA, and click “send request”.
Click the verification link

PeopleFinders emails you a link that opens the removal form.
Open it and click “click here to fill out the form”.
The link expires after 24 hours. Miss that window and you start over.
Nothing in your inbox? Check spam and promotions.
Complete the record suppression form

Fill out the form with your personal details.
Only the fields marked with an asterisk are required, so you don’t have to hand over more than they already have.
A smart move: find your own listing on PeopleFinders first, then match only the info shown there.
That way you’re not handing over more than they already have. Save your profile URL, too—you’ll want it to confirm the record is gone later.
Check the box confirming your info is correct, solve the CAPTCHA, and click “submit”. You’ll get an on-screen confirmation and a confirmation email. Save a screenshot in case the listing comes back.
Alternative opt-out methods
Use the phone route if the form keeps rejecting your details or the verification email never arrives.
Opt out by phone
Call PeopleFinders at (877) 551-9688 and tell the rep you want to opt out of the people-search database. Have your full name, current and past addresses, and date of birth ready so they can match your record.
Because this is verbal, there’s no confirmation email. Ask for a reference number, and check back in a couple of days to confirm the listing is down. Either way—phone or form—the removal doesn’t stick forever.
Why your data keeps coming back
PeopleFinders doesn’t generate your data—it collects it from thousands of sources and republishes it.
So when those source records change, a fresh listing can show up under your name, even after a clean opt-out. PeopleFinders says as much in its own notice: it regularly receives new public records, so your information may appear again in the future.
This often follows public-record changes, like:
- Buying or selling a home
- Updating your voter registration
- Changing your address or phone number.
That’s why a one-time opt-out doesn’t hold for long. The fix is checking back, not a single request.
What to expect after opting out
How long removal takes
PeopleFinders’ stated window is three days. Many listings come down faster—within 24 hours—but some take longer, so give it a full week before you worry.
How to verify your data was removed
Clear your browser cache, then re-search your name on PeopleFinders (or reopen the profile URL you saved). The listing should no longer appear.
Google’s cache can hold onto the old page for about two weeks after PeopleFinders clears you. That sorts itself out as Google re-crawls—or you can speed it up with Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool.
It won’t change an official background check
PeopleFinders isn’t an FCRA consumer reporting agency, and opting out is a privacy step—not a way to change official records. If you’re worried about an employment, tenant, or credit screening, this removal won’t affect what an FCRA-compliant provider returns.
Troubleshooting
In short: Most PeopleFinders opt-out problems come down to a verification email that never arrives, a listing that’s still up after a few days, or a profile that reappears later. None of them mean the opt-out is closed off.
The verification email never arrived
Check spam and promotions first, and search your inbox for “PeopleFinders.”
Still nothing? The link may have expired—it only lasts 24 hours. Restart at peoplefinders.com/opt-out and try a personal Gmail or Outlook address, which tends to get through more reliably than work email.
The listing is still up after three days
Give it a full week before treating it as stuck. If it’s still there, clear your cache and re-check—sometimes you’re looking at a cached page, not a live one.
If the record genuinely won’t come down, call PeopleFinders’ customer service at (800) 718-8997. That’s the only escalation route the site offers when a request doesn’t push through.
Your listing reappeared
Re-submit through the same opt-out form. A reappearance usually means PeopleFinders picked your data back up from a fresh public-record pass—not that your original request failed.
If the same profile keeps coming back within days of removal, call the opt-out line at (877) 551-9688 to flag it. As a last resort, file a BBB complaint or contact your state attorney general’s consumer protection office.
Multiple or family listings
You can opt out more than one person if you have the details and the authority to do so—including family members. Run a separate opt-out for each name, matching the exact record shown on the site.
Other data brokers that may have your data
PeopleFinders is only one stop.
It runs on the Enformion data engine and pulls from over 6,000 sources—the same public records that feed dozens of other people search sites.
Clear yourself here, and the others stay exactly where they are, each with its own opt-out form buried in a footer.
The full list runs into the hundreds, and most repopulate within months. Manual opt-outs don’t really scale.
That’s the gap Incogni is built to close.
It sends removal requests across the 420+ data brokers in its coverage, watches for the re-listings, and re-sends the requests when your data comes back—without you having to track any of it.
If you’re on the fence, its 30-day money-back guarantee makes it a low-risk way to see whether hands-off removal is worth it.

FAQ
Is it safe to give PeopleFinders my email to opt out?
It’s the trade-off the process forces. PeopleFinders needs an email to send the verification link, so there’s no way around it through the standard form. To limit the exposure, use a separate address you keep just for opt-outs—that way you’re not handing over the inbox you use for everything else.
What kind of information is on PeopleFinders?
A PeopleFinders subscription can reveal your full name, address, phone number, past residences, relatives, aliases, age, neighbors, property records, bankruptcies, judgments, business contacts, deceased status, misdemeanors, and criminal and sex-offender checks.
Does PeopleFinders charge to remove my data?
No. Opting out of PeopleFinders is free, and it never asks for payment or billing details during the process. Any prompt for a credit card belongs to the paid search product, not the opt-out.
Will opting out delete my PeopleFinders account?
No—these are separate. The opt-out suppresses your public listing; it doesn’t cancel a paid subscription. To cancel an account, log in and use the cancellation link, or call (800) 718-8997.
