Incogni vs Optery – A Comprehensive Buyer’s Comparison

At first glance, Optery seems to leave Incogni in the dust when it comes to the number of data brokers it supports: 615 to 270.

But does it really?

Numbers do matter—the more data brokers you can remove your personal information from, the better for your privacy.

But numbers don’t mean much if a data removal company can’t actually follow through on those removal requests.

So, how does Optery really stack up against Incogni?

Take a look below.

This review was conducted in April, 2025, and the most recent update was made in May, 2025.

1. A breakdown of what’s included with each service

In short
Optery covers over 600 people search sites, ideal for protecting individual privacy. Incogni covers fewer sites but adds value by including private-database brokers and offering custom removals from any website, making it a complete privacy solution.

The total number of data brokers is undoubtedly an important element of each data removal service.

But quantity doesn’t always trump quality.

And when it comes to data brokers, quality—or in this case, privacy impact—matters a lot.

For a quick recap, here are the numbers of data brokers for the two services:

  • Incogni: 270+ data brokers across all plans
  • Optery: 615+ for the most expensive plan only

…for automated removals.

Now, let’s have a look at the types of data brokers covered.

Types of data brokers coveredIncogniOptery

✔️

✔️

✔️

✔️

✔️

Recruitment data brokers

✔️

✔️

As you can see, Incogni may support fewer data brokers than Optery, but it pulls ahead when it comes to the diversity and overall impact of those brokers.

Which one matters more?

That really depends—there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

Some people believe that every additional site your data is removed from is a win.

Others argue that certain data brokers have a much greater impact on your privacy, so it’s more effective to focus on a few key players rather than chasing down hundreds of smaller ones.

Who’s right?

We’ll let you be the judge.

1.1. Custom removals: The feature to maximize your privacy protection

In short
Optery’s Ultimate plan offers unlimited custom removals, but only for people search sites. Incogni’s similar feature costs about half as much and works on people search sites, private-database data brokers, and almost any website—including e-commerce sites and old blog posts.

Both Incogni and Optery offer custom removals.

Here’s a quick look at what custom removals are, how they work, and why they matter.

Automated removals only work when data brokers cooperate—but some don’t. A few aren’t required to do so by privacy laws, while others do everything they can to avoid removing your info regardless.

That’s where custom removals come in.

Our team steps in and handles these cases manually, helping get your data removed even from the brokers that usually ignore automated requests.

But why stop with brokers?

Plenty of websites aren’t technically data brokers but still expose your personal information. It’s not always intentional, and they may not be selling your data—but if your info is sitting on old forums, niche sites, or forgotten web pages, it’s out there.

And once it’s out there, it often gets picked up by data brokers and used to build new profiles.

Most data removal companies, like Optery, stop at data brokers—but not Incogni.

Our custom removal feature lets you submit links to almost anywhere on the internet. While we can’t remove data from sources like public records or government websites, we’ve got you covered almost everywhere else.

Check out the table below to see exactly how we’re different.

* ”Non-data-broker sites” refers to websites not classified as data brokers, such as online stores, blogs, job boards, and more. Due to legal and technical limitations, we can’t guarantee 100% success in every case—but we can guarantee 100% effort.

** While forum removals are tricky, we have successfully removed personal information from forums in some cases.

1.2. Follow-ups: How each service makes sure your data never circles back to data brokers

In short
Data brokers often re-collect your information after removal. That’s why removal services do follow-up scans to check if your information has been added back.Optery scans all covered people search sites every 30 days for paying customers. Incogni scans less often—every 60 days for people search sites and every 90 days for database brokers.

Having your data successfully deleted from a broker’s database isn’t a complete win just yet.

You see—

While it’s true that privacy laws, like the GDPR in the EU or the CCPA in California, oblige brokers to delete your data, they don’t necessarily stop them from collecting your information again later.

Unless a broker is under strict legal obligations there’s not much stopping them from picking your data right back up once it reappears.

And it nearly always does.

You might sign up for a newsletter, update a public profile, or simply have your information sold by a company you’ve done business with. All it takes is one source, and your data ends up in circulation again.

That’s why data removal isn’t a one-time game.

It’s an ongoing effort that means keeping a sharp eye on brokers’ records to make sure your information hasn’t quietly made its way back.

Let’s see how Incogni and Optery compare on this front.

2. A look at the plans and pricing options for each service

In short
Optery’s free plan scans for exposed data but requires an account and doesn’t include removals—you’ll need to take care of those yourself.Incogni offers a similar tool for free—no account needed—that shows if your info appears on people search sites. Both tools help you see where your data is exposed, but only Incogni lets you check instantly without signing up.

Before comparing prices and features, it helps to look at how each company structures its plans.

While both Incogni and Optery offer similar tools, the way they package and present their services is quite different.

Here’s a closer look at what you actually get with each one—starting with their free options.

✔️

Incogni doesn’t technically have a free plan, but it offers almost the same features as what Optery calls its free plan.

In terms of features, the services are very similar—they’re just categorized differently by each company.

Incogni provides a tool called the Digital Footprint Checker which scans people search sites to find where your personal data might be exposed.

You’ll then get a personalized report listing the sites that are sharing your information.

And the best part?

You don’t even need to create an account—anyone can use the service.

It’s quick and hassle-free.

Optery, on the other hand, offers similar functionality—it also scans for exposed data—but treats it as part of a plan.

The catch is that you need to sign up to access it.

The upside? It comes with a few added perks: not only do you get a report, but also helpful removal instructions and direct links to each people search site.

2.1. Subscription plans: features and options compared

In short
Incogni’s plans are based on how many people you want to cover, and all plans include full coverage of 270+ brokers. You can choose an individual plan or a family plan for up to five people.Optery’s pricing depends on how many brokers are included and what kind of removals you want. There’s no family plan—each person needs a separate account, which can get pricey for groups.

Incogni and Optery take very different approaches when it comes to their pricing plans.

Incogni keeps things simple, basing its plans mostly on how many people are covered and whether you want access to extra features.

Optery, on the other hand, structures its plans around the number—and quality—of data brokers included.

With that in mind, let’s break down the plans, starting with Incogni.

Plans offered by Incogni

As mentioned earlier, Incogni’s plans are built around the number of people you want to protect.

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • Standard and Unlimited plans for one person

And—

  • Family and Family Unlimited plans for up to five people.

Regardless of which plan you choose, your personal information will be protected across all data brokers covered by Incogni—at the time of writing, this means 270+ brokers

What differentiates Unlimited plans from Standard ones is the option to request custom removals as part of the Unlimited subscriptions (we discussed this above).

Plans offered by Optery

Optery distinguishes between plans based on the number and quality of data brokers. This way, you have:

  • A Basic plan that doesn’t cover any data brokers—you have to do all the work yourself; Optery only helps you identify specific websites that expose your data.
  • A Core plan that covers 110 people search sites.
  • An Extended plan that boosts the number of brokers to 275.
  • An Ultimate plan that tops out at 375 brokers.

Optery doesn’t offer a dedicated family or group plan.

However, when you check out Optery’s pricing page, you might see different numbers than what we mentioned earlier.

That’s because Optery has an optional add-on called “Expanded Reach.”

  • Expanded Reach includes 240+ more data brokers, and some of them are private-database brokers.

According to Optery, this optional extra adds brokers that “don’t yet meet Optery’s strict removal verification standards.”

We’re not entirely sure what that exactly means—a vague term like that could just as easily refer to brokers whose databases are private, or to brokers who are unresponsive or flat-out refuse to comply.

Optery isn’t very clear about why certain brokers end up in this category or how they handle those requests—like whether they monitor your profiles the same way as their standard protection or if they send follow-up requests.

For that reason we’re not including these numbers when comparing the main features of each service.

There’s also another aspect that feels a bit off with Optery: their family and group plans.

Optery doesn’t offer a dedicated family plan—or any plan that would cover multiple people within a single subscription—unlike Incogni’s Family plan, which handles up to five individuals.

Instead, Optery requires each family member (or friend) to have their own individual account, with only subscriptions being managed by one person.

That offers quite a bit of flexibility—you can decide which plan you want for each individual member and there are no limits to how many people such a “family” can include.

What’s more, Optery offers a small discount for each subscription purchased.

So, with five people, you can get a 30% discount on each plan.

But keep in mind—

Optery is already on the expensive side, so the bill can add up quickly for families.

We’ve covered this in more detail in our Optery review.

2.2. Head-to-head: pricing and value comparison

In short
Optery’s top plan covers over 375 brokers, but there’s a catch—custom removals take 30 days to start and only work on people search sites.Incogni is cheaper ($14.99 vs $20.70 per month), covers 270+ brokers, and lets you use custom removals right away. Plus, they work on more types of sites—including people search sites, private databases, Google results, and regular websites.

Now, let’s gather all the essential information about each service’s plans into one handy comparison table.

For this overview, we’re only considering the top plans.

2.3. Risk-free trials and cancellations: a breakdown of policies and what to expect

In short
Both Incogni and Optery offer a 30-day, money-back guarantee, so you can try them out risk-free. You can cancel anytime in the first month and get a full refund—no matter how much work has already been done.

While data removal services take some time to really show results, it’s understandable that people who aren’t familiar with them would rather try things out before committing to a year or longer.

Both Optery and Incogni get that.

Each service comes with a risk-free trial:

  • Both Optery and Incogni offer a 30-day, money-back guarantee, no matter how much progress has been made removing your data.
  • You can request a full refund at any point during the first 30 days, and you’ll get your money back.

‼️Side note: Optery restricts some features—like custom removals—to customers who have already passed the 30-day trial.

To get your refund:

  1. Contact customer support and let them know you’d like to cancel.
  2. You might experience a couple of “win-back” attempts before your subscription is officially canceled, but with either service, it usually just takes a few emails.

You can also cancel your subscription renewal.

US law now requires companies to give users easy access to a “cancel” button, so both services have that in place.

You can cancel your subscription renewal at any time and you’ll still be able to use either service until the end of your current billing cycle.

Just a heads up: canceling your account and canceling your subscription renewal aren’t the same thing.

  • Canceling your account means you’re opting out within your first 30 days and getting a full refund.
  • Canceling your renewal just stops your subscription from renewing automatically—you won’t get a refund, but you also won’t be charged when your current billing period ends.

3. How customer support works for each service

In short
Incogni and Optery have similar customer support options. Both offer 24/7 support through chat, email, social media, and Reddit, but no phone support. They also have FAQs, tutorials, and guides to help you manage your privacy yourself.

When it comes to customer support, the two services are very similar and adhere to industry standards.

Self-help resources (like opt-out guides, FAQs)

✔️

✔️

While most of the table is self-explanatory, let’s take a closer look at the “self-help” resources, since these can come in many different forms.

First up: the help desk.

Both services have dedicated customer support pages.

On these pages, you’ll find answers to common questions—both brief and in-depth—as well as useful tutorials on how different features work, how to activate them, and more.

Incogni-vs-optery image_3

But that’s not all—

Both services also provide step-by-step guides on how to opt out of specific people search sites, protect yourself from spam and scams, and improve your overall online privacy.

You can find these helpful resources on the services’ respective blogs.

4. A closer look at business and enterprise options

In short
Optery works with businesses, but its service is the same as the individual plans and doesn’t offer specialized solutions.Incogni offers IronWall—a custom service for businesses, courts, healthcare, government agencies, and more, with tailored protection and dedicated support.

Businesses often have different needs than individual customers.

That’s why Incogni offers a separate service called Ironwall by Incogni (Ironwall for short), which is fully dedicated to helping businesses, organizations, and government entities protect their people’s privacy.

Incogni-vs-optery image_4

With its own team and resources, Ironwall is able to approach each client individually, taking the time to understand their unique needs in order to provide the best possible protection.

You can read more about Ironwall here.

Optery, on the other hand, takes a different approach.

When you read their business page, it quickly becomes clear that it’s essentially the same service they offer to individual customers—just with different pricing and coverage for more people.

As a result, Optery only performs regular scans across the same data brokers included in their individual plans, and removes personal information from people search sites.

Based on Optery’s business page, it doesn’t appear to offer customized protection tailored to the specific needs and challenges of business clients.

5. Exploring bundle deals and packaged services

In short
Optery is a standalone service with no bundle options.Incogni, on the other hand, can be bundled with top privacy tools like NordVPN and Surfshark—giving you all-in-one protection.

Removing your personal information from data broker databases is a big step toward better privacy and security—from something as simple as reducing spam, to protecting yourself against serious threats like identity theft.

But why stop there?

In addition to data removal, you can also get access to top-rated VPN services like NordVPN or Surfshark VPN.

But only with Incogni.

As of May 2025, Incogni is the only data removal service that can be bundled with other privacy services.

Optery, for the time being, isn’t part of any bundles.

Incogni and Optery are both great services, but…

Incogni and Optery are both strong data removal services—and we genuinely mean that.

They’re often listed as the top two for good reason: solid coverage, affordable pricing, responsive support, and custom removals, among other benefits.

But there are key differences that could sway you one way or the other.

Optery has excellent coverage, especially when it comes to major people search sites like Whitepages and Spokeo.

These sites are tough to deal with, so having them included in automatic removals is a big plus.

The catch?

You only get that kind of protection with Optery’s Ultimate plan—which costs over $20 a month. While they do offer cheaper plans, only the most expensive one gives you full privacy protection.

Their custom removals also fall short.

They only work for people search sites, which means you can’t ask Optery to remove your info from private-database brokers or random sites like blogs, forums, or online stores.

Incogni, on the other hand, gives you more for less.

For under $15 a month, you get coverage across 270+ data brokers, including both people search and private-database brokers. And the list keeps growing.

Even better—

All Incogni plans include full broker coverage—so you don’t have to worry about being stuck with limited features just because you picked a lower-priced plan.

Then there’s our custom removals—a feature we’re especially proud of.

It’s easy to use (just send us a link), and we can remove your data from people search sites, private-database brokers, and all sorts of other websites across the internet.

Of course, not every site will cooperate—but we’ve already removed user data from blogs, forums, e-commerce sites, news sites, and more.

So if you’re looking for wider coverage, better value, and more flexible removals, Incogni is the better choice.
