Intelius Opt Out & Remove Your Info

Intelius has a pretty bad rep when it comes to collecting data without consent. They were also known for making it notoriously difficult to opt out. Fortunately for you, one of those bad practices has changed due to bad press.

These days, you can opt out of Intelius without too much hassle. You will need to opt out of another data broker—PeopleConnect—to get your personal info off the Intelius website.

There is a pretty standard form to fill out with, unfortunately, some “identity confirmation” to tip-toe through. Intelius requires you to give up some of your personal information, which, if you look closely at their terms and conditions, may allow them to use this data at their discretion. However, taking your record out of circulation is worth the risk in the long-run.

All in all, it shouldn’t take you longer than 5 – 10 minutes. Just be aware that your data might end up back on Intelius after a while. That’s why we recommend you repeat the data removal process at least once every few months. You can also use an automated opt-out service like Incogni to do this for Intelius and dozens of data brokers on your behalf.

What is Intelius?

Intelius is a people search site based in the US. It offers people search, reverse phone number lookup, and background check services to its subscribers. Intelius holds more than 20 billion personal records on Americans and US residents.

RelatedHow to deal with incorrect information on background check reports

The website was founded in 2003 under the parent company People Connect. Nowadays, it is one of the oldest and most popular people search sites in the US, with around 3.5 million visitors every month. One of the reasons for its popularity is the vast extent of personal info it offers.

The records Intelius sells include personal details such as:
– Phone numbers
– Email addressed
– Location information
– Court records
– Criminal records
– Misdemeanors
– Warrants
– Traffic tickets
– Concealed carry permits
– Property records
– Evictions
– Foreclosures
– Tax liens
– Bankruptcies
– Financial assets
– Relatives & associates
– Online relationships
– Social media profiles
– Dating profiles
– Online activity
– Associated websites & blogs
– Education & employment history
– Photos

Intelius advertises its services as a way to reconnect with friends, get location details on someone, learn their secrets, and more.
The website also provides more extensive services such as full background checks, criminal records searches, reverse address lookups, and more. These come at a higher price point but include details such as marriage and divorce records, civil judgements, death records, and more.
What are the risks? Using personal data makes our lives far more convenient overall. However, in the wrong hands, your personal data can be used to run scams, steal your identity, and even harass or stalk you online (and offline). This is why it’s so important to remove your personal information from all data brokers.

How long does it take Intelius to process my opt-out request?

Intelius will process your opt-out request within 72 hours. You can clear your browser cache and check back after this time. If your record is still not removed after this time, email their support at custserv@intelius.com or call on weekdays (888) 245-1655 7am – 5pm.

How long does it take to complete the Intelius data removal process?

It should only take you around 5 – 10 minutes to complete the Intelius data removal process.

What should I do if Intelius doesn’t delete my data?

If Intelius still hasn’t deleted your data after 2 weeks, we recommend you submit another opt-out request. If this doesn’t resolve the situation, contact their customer support again at custserv@intelius.com or call (888) 245-1655 7am – 5pm  Mon – Fri.

Can Intelius collect my data again after they approve my opt-out request?

It is possible that Intelius will collect your personal information again after you’ve already opted out. This is common with data brokers as they constantly update their databases. This is why you should regularly check back and send new requests when needed.

You can also use an automatic data removal service like Incogni, so you don’t have to monitor these websites manually.

How does Intelius collect personal information?

Intelius scrapes personal information from publicly available records such as court records, warranty cards, and mortgage deeds to form most of their people search database. Other data comes from other sources such as social media profiles, businesses, and other data brokers.

Intelius also purchases bulk data lists from unofficial sources on the web, many of which possibly get those lists from data breaches. Due to some of the company’s practices, it was involved in several controversies involving how they collect data. The site was accused of collecting cell phone numbers without consent

Does Intelius have the right to use my data?

Yes, Intelius is a legit company that operates within the law. They adhere to data privacy laws such as the CCPA. This also means that you have the right to make them delete your data if you live in an area covered by such laws.

How to remove your name from Intelius?

All you need to do to remove your name from Intelius is to complete the opt-out process described in this guide:
1) Access Intelius website by heading to Intelius opt-out page
2) Find your record and click “Select this record”
